The de Fazios surveyed several thousand folks who had recently been involved in a real estate transaction.

They asked buyers and sellers to describe their goals, and what frustrated them about their real estate experience.

Respondents said this: Buying or selling a home is not an everyday experience, and the amount of money involved raises many questions - and fears.

Even the most sophisticated buyers and sellers were afraid of making a major mistake, so they wanted guidance from someone who had experience and skills.

Here's a summary of the findings:

  • They wanted someone squarely on their side. Many described enormous frustrations because of the lack of support they had received from their agents and others in the transaction.
  • They thought they weren’t provided with all the information they needed to make proper decisions. Some even thought information was withheld.
  • Often, communication was lacking.
  • Most of all, many were dismayed that they had chosen their representatives poorly - that their agent took the path of least resistance, rather than representing them, and negotiating on their behalf.
  • Many felt they had no one on their team.
